Girl's Friday Night

Just like what I'd told you before. I went to the Italiannies (located at Pyramid Shopping Mall) with my 4 other girlfriends. To tell you the truth, it was really awkward for us upon entering the restaurant - or ristorante in Italy. Me and my friends came from Indonesia, and I'm the only one who came from Jakarta while the other came from West Sumatra and East Sumatra. In comparison, think Jakarta as New York and West/East Sumatra as Minnesota (it just popped into my head, probably because of the name, so sorry for Minnesotanian out there!) therefore, we aren't used to eat in such places (I'm also because me and my family rarely eat western food)

So when the waitress - or cameriere in Italy handed us the menu, most of us didn't know what to order. Thankfully, due to my daily activities - reading people's blog about food, I know most of the term and able to help my friends in making decision. Finally after such a long thinking, meditating, and arguing, we had our order to be taken (sorry waitress). While waiting for our food, we use this moment as picture-taking session (you know..teenagers) using our blackberries (notice that I'm using -ies here instead of -ry, because all of us were using blackberry, hence the -ies.

The Girls (I was taking the picture)

(from left to right : Elvin, Elvina, Evelyne, Cindy)

Complimentary - Sourdough bread (eaten already) and White bread served with Olive oil, Dill and Balsamic Vinegar

I was hoping for toasted bread and butter for such a high-class restaurant *sigh*. Anyway, each of us grab a slice (except, I grab 2 slices, pardon me for I'm a bread whore) and dip it to the olive oil (Even until this moment, I still don't feel the extravagant taste of olive oil that folks are talking 'bout, for me it's just an oil) then to the balsamic vinegar (One of my favorite dressing).

Verdict : I love the sourdough bread, perhaps because they contain some acidity (not from the vinegar) and some herb fragrant. The white bread crust wasn't crispy enough though.

We also order some appetizer to be shared among us (I only taste a piece remembering that I'm a flexitarian)

Appetizer : Clams Fra Diovolo

This dish gained our recognition, for its soft and plumpy texture, complemented with spicy-tomato broth and garlic - typical chinese and indonesian food. My friends love the clams, as for me, I love the tomato broth. Yeah, I'm a tomato-whore too.

My dish : Caesar Salad

My first reaction when the plate arrived in front of me : WHAT THE F***. Sorry people, it just that the portion itself was surprisingly a LOT and I rarely eat a portion of salad that much (exception for Vietnamese salad though). Also, for some cheese-lovers out there, this food may be their paradise because it was tossed with cream cheese, vinegar and topped with parmesan. But I don't, in fact I was devastated..I hate cheese that's why (sorry people) I never like cheese, the only cheese that I ate is mozzarella cheese and a little bit of cheddar (mild types). I don't know why people loved cheese in their food, but I don't , I only love cheese with bread and egg (omelette) but the melted one ! Anyway I tried it, and......wow, the dressing was salty and sourly, kinda refreshing somehow so I guess it wasn't so bad at all. The croutons though, the little tiny pieces of croutons was so crispy, crunchy and I love it the best !!

Elvin's struggle with her food : Angel Hair Podomoro with chicken

Despite the fact of my huge pile of salad, nothing could beat my friend's pasta surprise that night. Her dish was actually designated for a family (which we don't know) so it came with a really really big portion, but her pasta would be the one that I order for next visit (yes people, we will not backed down). For it got rich tomato sauce with tomato chunk but overcooked pasta (which I love the best) that definitely attracts a tomato-whore like me. Too bad this girl don't like tomato that much and it ended up unfinished (no one could eat it anymore, we are too fulled).

Because I was so astounded by my salad and her pasta, I actually forgot to take a picture of the rest of the menu that night. But I could still recall the taste of the menu that night though. Here are what I remember about last night menu :
- Elvina : Salmon Fettuccine, fettuccine cooked with white sauce and vodka, then tossed with smoked salmon (which she didn't finished, don't ask me why) and some spring onion. Nice and creamy, but I don't like creamy thing so it didn't worked for me.
- Evelyne & Cindy : Penne Bolognese, penne tossed with bolognese sauce (tomato, ground beef) This dish was the worst of the night, because it was so dry and cold probably because it had to wait for the other dish to be finished before serving. If only it was hotter, it probably will worked.

P.S : Sorry for the bad quality picture, please bear with me until I bought my camera in Indonesia.

Sincerely,
Dev

Lab Incident

"Cellular respiration is the set of the metabolic reactions and processes that take place in the cells of organisms to convert biochemical energy from nutrients into....." (from- wikipedia)

Me : Wait, what am I talking 'bout?
Me : It's the cellular respiration..remember?
Me : Yeah I know, but I shouldn't talk about it on my blog....wait a minute....
(Conversation between my & my subconscious self) - AWKWARD

Sorry for that stupid dialogue people...I'm just having a struggle with myself right now *sigh*. Please don't hate me for this..pleasee *wagging tail*

Anyway, I'm studying about Cellular respiration in Bio right now and trust me when I telling you that it's TOUGH. I repeat : T.O.U.G.H. No, I'm not exaggerating, it's not like I'm the only one having trouble in remembering all those somethingdealwithase-names right? right? And yet, this is one subject that I has to know the best in order to get into Nutrition major. Can you imagine that you have to memorize this cycle?

Urgh, Please throw it away from me

Yesterday, (two days before actually) I did my lab experiment, which scheduled for every wednesday on every week. We were given big-lump heart that comes with liver - or should it be be the other way around? Basically, what we have to do was to cut small pieces of the animals tissue, (by small here, I mean really-really small) Put it into the test tubes, then add some methylene blue, succinic acid (whoa, slow down with science-term dev!), and oil then record it changes for 1 hour.

So, I did, I cut the tissues gently while holding my breath- the stench, duhh, gently drop some methylene blue & succinic acid, put it inside the water incubator (is it?) and accidentally spilled my 5th tube (containing the control reactant) and creates oily layer on top of the water surfaces (oops) that I hurried back to my desk, and making the solution again without any measurement at all and put it immediately again in the incubator then putting my innocent face

My Professionally-made solution

(the 5th tube is on the far right by the way)

Does this seem innocent enough, guys?

Then, after 10 minutes, I opened the incubator to check any reaction - the intense people ! And, It reacts !!! Yey!! but wait...what happened?? Oh S*** (there's kid reading) My 4th tube is missing ! Yes, people it went missing..Desperate, heart-broken, tired, clueless, solemnly..(alrite, I feltnothing that time, typical me, just trying to make some drama here) Then, I told my teacher, and she didn't care a bit.

Anyway, the experiment still proceeds, and by the end of class, Byun (my classmate) screamed : "Hey, I found Dev's missing tube here !!" and I was : "WHAT????". I hurried to him and he said, " Yeah, I found it at the bottom of the incubator, it must to be drowned somehow". Honestly, I don't know what to do that time, so I just ignore it...BUT, for me, that day was known as The Mistery of Dev's Missing Tube. LOL

Meanwhile, me and my friends are planning to have dinner at the Italiannies

Have a nice day people !!

School Life

As I'd promise you folks before. I'm going to talk about my school here which is the reason why I moved here from Indonesia. I'm currently studying at Sunway University (Local Malaysian should'a known that) Located near the heart of Malaysia - Kuala Lumpur. I recently just moved here at the beginning of July 2011, can't believe that it's been a month know since I started to live alone*big applause* Anyway, I started to get used to the environment here, (still can't stand the heat though) The only thing that I hate about Malaysia is the humid-yet-hot air, unlike in Jakarta, we still have the cold breeze coming from the rain, well only if it's raining

My School's Logo, (taken from google)
(Seriously need to get a camera now)

So, I was born at 1994, and am turning Seventeenth this December, hell yeah ! I haven't finished my senior highschool yet, right after I finished my 11th grade, I decided to drop out my school and taking some foundation. The reason of my withdrawal, simply because I hate my highschool, they have rules for everything!-you can't do that, no, you must follow this !! bla bla bla, which made us (yeah, us here means a lot) uncomfortable.

To be honest, at first I was trying to get into a foundation at La Salle Singapore, but they only allowed 12th grader, which excluded me. So my last choice is this CIMP programme at Sun-U. The irony about my story is how I used to hate Malaysia a lot, especially bout their education,
and now *sigh*...BUT The level that I'm taking now is seriously hard, I doubt that my friends in Indonesia would be able to follow my studies here, especially pertaining to Science ( Biology, Chemistry, etc ) So I gotta work my ass off to graduate next year *finger-crossed* Especially if I'm aiming to become a Nutritionist !!!!!

Many people would ask : "what's the relation between nutrition & La Salle? Cause they both are, well..different" I know they are. Well, my story is like this : Since I was a kid and until around 2010, I used to dream of becoming a designer, yeah I do. But, after seeing how inadequate my knowledge in fashion was, it discouraged me. Things happened a lot during the last semester of 2010 (the details will be told soon) I used to be a fat kid, like really really fat (max: 150 pounds) So, I tried so fucking hard, and here I am..not so ideal but at least much better than before. But, right I after I lose 50 pounds, my body started to react (severe hairloss, low blood pressure, late period, etc) due to the malnutrition (yeah, bad diet) Which persuade me the most to learn about nutrition. So, I guess bad things always comes with good things huh? *wink*

Me Now (2011)

HUGE differences right? *Nod*

Little Bit 'Bout me

Yoho !!!!! I'm back, well just finished my dinner, but I forgot to take the picture (promise, I will next time !) ...Talking bout picture, it remind me about my dear-beloved-camera,

Canon DSLREOS 500D..
this picture was taken around 2 years ago, hence pardon my fat hand....(will tell you about that later)

Its not like it broke or something, just that the fact I gave it to my brother still hurts me till now. Why I gave it to my brother? Well, my brother kinda jealous with me I guess (I said KINDA and I GUESS) since I bought these beautiful camera around 2009, he always wanted to have one, just like me.

When he enroll to a university in America, majoring inarchitecture, he told mother that he want to buy a camera too. I still remember the times when I tried to persuade him to buy the small one (I'm sneaky, am I?) but he was so stubborn. Hence, because I am such a good little sister (alright, I'm not..) I decided to gave my-precious to him :( He seems happy though, considering he got 1 camera+ 3 lenses, but the remorse that I felt...huwaaaa :( BUT, my mom allowed to buy a new one though haha (Guess I am sneaky huh?) I decided I want to buy this pretty little baby....

Hi there beautiful

Taken from google (credit goes to this)

Have to wait for the holiday though, because it's way too expensive to buy it here in Kuala Lumpur...Can't wait till I go back to my hometown, Jakarta and having this little beauty in my hand \(^o^)/ So, I got to hang on to my blackberry + iTouch + laptop camera, poor me...

Anyway, sorry if I took some of the picture from the internet, cause I don't have the picture...
Hopefully soon I will though :D

First Post

It had been bizillion years ago since I post my last post. (okay, It's not that long, but quite a long time) Well, technology & social things are not my field, (seriously, not my things)
Anyway, do forgive my ignorance and my bad english, since English is not my first language.

So Please Bear With Me People

And I promise you guys, that I will try to keep updating my blog *finger-crossed* Warning : This blog will contain nothing but absurd things, things that interest me the most (which I want to share with you guys !!>< )

Me (left) and My friend Playing Around Using Photobooth

a little bit about me: I'm a girl (duhh) born Indonesian and raised Indonesian for about 16 years, thus, it made me an Indonesian then (What a fact huh?) But, my parents-grandparents-grand grand parents-great great great parents-well, I guess you got the idea already, are chinese. My grandparents moved to Indonesia around 1930 or so, and both my parents were born here. So, it makes me and my siblings (2 brothers and 1 little cutie sister) a chinese. Don't expect me to speak chinese though...cause, believe me, I know nothing about chinese hwa yi (that's the right term, is it?) and I can only spoke hokkien-chinese, english (yup, what a fact huh?) indonesian, and a little bit Japanese (learned it by manga and anime haha) But, I'd love to learn new language, so please teach me *wink*

Well after such a long time of talking (typing actually) I guess, it's time to go now, my class will be started soon (which I will talk 'bout it later) bye, and stay tuned to my blog \(^o^)/

best regard,
Dev
